Topic: Divine Lifting from the Pit of Life
Text: Psalm 40:1-4 “I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me and heard my cry.

He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.
Blessed is that man that maketh the Lord his trust, and respects not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies”

In this scripture, the Lord had just rescued David from a terrible situation, from a pit. A pit could be any situation that makes us feel hopeless and helpless. There is no one around to help, and all you see is stagnation, broken heartedness, dejection, depression, distress and misery. There seems to be darkness all around. A pit is a place of sorrow and sadness. May God deliver us from the pits of life in Jesus name.

For some people, poverty is a pit. In 1 Chronicles 4:9-10, Jabez was in such a pit. His situation was horrible until the day he cried unto the God of Israel. Some months back, I was in dire need of money to settle some bills. I called upon the Lord for help. On getting to the office, a colleague came to me and said the Lord told him to sow a seed into the life of a pastor ahead of an investment he wanted to make. I recommended to him to sow into the lives of notable pastors in the country but He insisted I am the only pastor he knows in the office and has decided to sow into my life. I was amazed and shed tears at the faithfulness of God. May God rescue you from the pit of Poverty in Jesus name.

For some, it is a pit of affliction. Sickness has become a pit for some people. The woman with the issue of blood in Mark 5:25-34 was in such situation. She had spent all she had until she decided to touch the helm of Jesus’ garment. May the Lord lift you out of the pit of affliction in the name of Jesus.

Also, the man at the pool of Bethesda was in a state of affliction for thirty-eight years, he was helpless and abandoned. There was nobody to help him until Jesus walked up to him. May Jesus walk up to you and take away all your afflictions in Jesus’ name.
For some, marriage has become a pit. The only visible solution is divorce. I remember the story of a man who referred to his marriage as a “sour” soup with no solution. He never saw any hope in the marriage. As far has he was concerned, it had hit the rocks. I decree that the almighty God who ordained marriage will put sweetness into your marriage in Jesus’ name.

For others, the fruit of the womb is like a pit. There are no children after many years in marriage. Hannah was in that situation. She had no child for many years, and worse still, she was being tormented and despised by Peninnah until a day the almighty God heard her cry and delivered her. May God deliver you from your pit in Jesus’ name.

How do we end up in a Pit?

There are 3 ways of falling into a pit:
1. Some fall into a pit on their own accord. Some decisions that we make sometimes lead us into a pit. When we enter into a venture without consulting God, we could end up in a pit of life. Some years ago, in my dream, I saw a friend enter a business. I warned him to pray about it but he didn’t. Before he knew it, he ended up in the hands of fraudsters who took away all his money and he suffered greatly from his creditors.
Some people in the quest to acquire so much wealth, ventured into occultism. They sold their souls to the devil and ended inside the pit of life.

Some people entered a pit by the words of their mouth. For instance, we do not bless our nation with our tongue. We do not even bless ourselves with our tongues. The Bible says in Proverb 18:21” the power of life and death lies in the tongue”. Some people were ignorantly thrown into a pit by their parents who had made certain covenants before they were born. Mephibosheth was in a pit in Lodebar until the king remembered him. May God remember you today in Jesus’ name.

2 Falling into a pit through friends and associates. In Matthew 15:14, says “Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both shall fall into the ditch. The bible in 2 Corin 6:14 says we should come out of “them”, referring to those that the enemy has provisioned to lead you into a ditch. May God almighty deliver you from every one that has been set to lead you into the ditch in Jesus’ name.

3 The worst of them is the Pit of Sin. Many people commit sin as if it is nothing. They wine and dine in Sin. Sin has gradually become a habit. Truth is, you cannot come out if the evil habit no matter how hard you wish or try. The bible makes us to understand in Zech 4:6, that it is not by power or might. You can only get out of a pit by looking up and not looking around. It is by lifting your eyes to the heavens for help.

Prayer Points:
1. Lord deliver me from the pit of affliction, bareness, and from the pit of Hell.
2. Father, please deliver me from the horrible pit of poverty and stagnation.
3. Father, set my feet upon the rock and establish my goings.
4. Father, please put a new song in mouth. A song of testimony and victory.
